Chanel bag counterfeiting has become extremely sophisticated. Some replicas are so close to the original that they fool even experienced sellers. Here are the 15 verification points that our experts at Hautane use to guarantee the authenticity of every Chanel bag.
1. The hologram and serial number. Every Chanel bag produced between 1984 and 2021 has a holographic sticker with a unique serial number. This sticker is attached inside the bag and must match the number on the authenticity card. Note: since 2021, Chanel has replaced holograms with RFID chips integrated into the leather. Fake holograms are often poorly printed, with blurry numbers or film that peels off easily.
2. The authenticity card. The black Chanel card with the gold number must match exactly with the hologram number. Fake cards often have a different font, uneven gilding, or incorrect format. The cardboard texture must be rigid and smooth.
3. The leather. Chanel caviar leather has a regular and deep grain, with a texture that slightly grips to the touch. Lambskin is extremely soft and smooth, with a slight natural shine. Fakes often use PU (synthetic) leather that has a chemical smell and plastic feel. Real Chanel leather has a natural quality leather scent.
4. The quilting. Chanel quilting is perfectly symmetrical: the diamonds must align on each side of the bag without offset. The padding is firm but supple — neither too flat nor too puffy. The stitching that forms the diamonds must be regular, with no protruding thread.
5. The chain. The Chanel chain is heavy — this is one of the easiest signs to verify. The metal is dense and the interwoven leather is well inserted into each link. Fake chains are often light and the interwoven leather is poorly fitted. The metal finish must be uniform, without paint traces or rust.
6. The CC logo. Chanel's double C must be perfectly symmetrical. The right C overlaps the left C at the top, and the left C overlaps the right C at the bottom. The logo metal must be smooth and well secured — no visible glue. Fake logos are often slightly asymmetrical or poorly positioned.
7. The stitching. Chanel uses exactly 8 stitches per diamond on the quilting. The stitching is straight, regular and made with high-quality waxed cotton thread. Fakes often have irregular stitching, with smaller stitches or shiny synthetic thread.
8-15. Other points. The interior lining (burgundy for Classic Flap, black for Boy), the magnetic closure (soft but firm), the interior label "Made in France" or "Made in Italy" (specific font and positioning), the dustbag (black cotton with white CC logo, center seam), the box (black with camellia ribbon), the tissue paper, the fabric protection pouch and the care certificate.

No, since 2021 Chanel has replaced holograms with RFID chips integrated into the leather. Bags produced before 2021 still have the hologram. Both systems are proof of authenticity.
