The Cartier Santos was created in 1904 by Louis Cartier for his friend Alberto Santos-Dumont, a pioneering aviator who complained of the difficulty of reading his pocket watch while flying. The Santos became the first purpose-designed men's wristwatch — a genuine revolution in watchmaking history.
